It Is True Enough That God Feeds The Birds Of The Air. However…..

It is true enough that God feeds the birds of the air.  However, He does not throw the worms into their nest.  I heard a speaker by the name of Andy Andrews make this statement just recently and it really struck a chord with me.  There is more than a little truth in what he said.  I cannot tell you how many times I have heard people say, “I just trust that God will take care of it.”  Or there is the statement “It is in God’s hands” or perhaps my all-time favorite “If the good Lord wills it, then it will be so.”  This type of thinking has always disturbed me a great deal.  I have always felt that there was more to the equation of God’s care than just if God wills, it will be thus.  Yet at the same time I have inwardly felt almost blasphemous for my way of thinking.  And if the truth be told, the few I shared my line of thinking with looked at me incredulously and almost with horror that I would consider such a thing.  However, this evening I give a heart-felt thank you to Andy Andrews for his statement for it makes good sense and lends credence to what I always felt was true.

Humans were created in the image of the One who brought them into existence.  We have within, each one of us a small piece of the Divine and it is that Divine spark that sets us apart from other life forms.  Now mind you, it sets us apart, not above other forms of Life.  All that lives and has Life is most precious.  One is not more important or vital than another and each life serves the other which completes the cycle as our Creator intended.  But, I digress and I do apologize.

My point is simply this.  The Creator does indeed feed the birds of the air.  He also feeds the fish that swim in the waters of our world.  Our God also makes sure that the tiger has its meal and the elephant eats its fill.  And I could continue listing various animals here but I am sure you get the idea.  But as Mr. Andrews stated, “God does not throw the worms into the bird’s nest”. No, He does not. However, what our Creator does do is to provide the worms for the birds.  But the provision of those worms is not enough, is it?  God had to provide birds with excellent vision and a  special sensitivity to “hear” that worm which is just below ground.  Have you ever noticed a robin cocking its’ head towards the ground and only a moment later, pulling a worm from the ground?  The bird is using a combination of visual and auditory skills to locate the food it requires to live.  And if we were discussing the tiger and its meal, then qualities such as stealth, speed and strength as well as vision would be brought to bear.  And this list of Life goes on and on, as long and varied as the number of species that exist on this planet of ours.

But you see what I am saying here, yes?  Our Creator provides the sustenance required to sustain such Life.  At the same time, He bestows to the creatures of this world the talents and abilities needed to pursue and obtain the nourishment which is required in order to live.  God expects the talents and abilities He has so generously given be used. He expects their purpose to be fulfilled. And I might add here that often I believe that the birds of the air and the beasts of the field as well as the fish in the sea are a bit more “in tune” with the creation process than we humans are.  You see, they have the good sense not to question the gifts and abilities given them.  They simply flow with what is given them and even learn how to sharpen those skills to a razors edge.  Now, you may say that animals are simply reliant on instinct and not much more.  If that thought comforts you, then so be it.  But let me ask you this, if I may……..Those talents that lie within you?  How far along have you come in developing those gifts and abilities gifted to you by your Creator?

I am not picking on anyone here for if I was to do so, I would have to put myself on the same list.  We humans are an inconsistent bunch, to be sure.  In one moment, we riding high and full of confidence and only moments later, we are brought low because an obstacle has arisen before us.  Perhaps the concept of running on instinct is not such a bad idea after all?  By this I simply mean that we should become well acquainted with our talents, those Seeds of Greatness that we are born with.  One must know what their gifts are in order to embrace and then nurture those gifts which rise up from within the Spirit.  And it is our privilege and yes, even our duty to share what we are given with those round about us.  And is this process of nurturing and sharing done instinctively?  I would say that it is.  Once we are truly aware of the spark of the Divine which indwells us, we can then allow ourselves to be guided instinctively by the Spirit within us. And we can do so because we are in touch with our higher self, if you will.  Does this make a degree of sense to you this evening?  As it is at times, I am not always sure of the path I am traveling when writing.  Often I am discovering the message as I write it which can be a bit strange but kind of neat at the same time.

One other item, if you will indulge me a moment longer?  I made mention earlier on that we humans are set apart from but not above other Life forms around us.  There was a reason for that now I see.  And the reason is simple really.  If our Creator has given the beasts, the fish and the fowl of this world innate capabilities that He fully expects them to use so that they may fulfill their purpose here, how much more do you think He expects from us?  We were formed in the image of the One who created us and each human being, each one of us was born with their own unique spark of Divinity which lives within.  God cared enough for us that while we were still in the womb, He imparted to our Spirit a piece of Himself.  Think about that for a moment.  That is pretty amazing stuff, yes?  Then to complete this picture, remember this as well.  We are all born with the gift of free will.  We are allowed to do and to live as we so choose.  This was also done by the design of the Artist, if I may.  If we are to cultivate and use those gifts, those Seeds of Greatness we are born into this world with, it will be done by our own hand and by choice.  What the Creator imparts to us and creates in us is a gift of Love and what we choose to do with what we are given is actually our expression of Love to both our Creator and to those we meet on our journey through Life.

My question to all of us tonight is this………..How will we choose to use those gifts that lie within each one if us?  Will we allow them to simply lie dormant and remain unused until it is our time to depart from this, our world in which case we will die with a deprived Spirit and we will have deprived others of the blessings we were meant to share?  Or will we do as some do and use what they were meant to share only for themselves in which case no one truly benefits.  Or will we choose door #3, as they say?  For behind that door there resides an abundance of blessing, hearts full of wealth and love, and a world that has been made better for us having been there?

I have gone long this evening and the hour is late.  I truly hope that the words here have been beneficial to you, the reader.  Do think about the message here and if it has merit, follow your thoughts with action.  Take the steps necessary to share with others the gifts, talents and abilities that are within your being.  Always remember that it is in blessing those round’ about you that you are blessed in return.  Do not hide away what you have for nothing can grow and flourish without the light of the Sun.  Take care with yourselves.  I wish to you a good night and a blessed tomorrow.
